I have many fond memories of growing up in Brooklyn.More specifically in an area of Brooklyn called Kensington.  It seemed like on the block I grew up on everyone knew everyone for the most part.

I can remember as a little girl going with my mom whenever she had errands to run like going to the bank or to the grocery story. At that time there was only one in our area to shop in which was called Grand Union. I have many fond memories of walking along Church AVE with my mom which was in walking distance of our street. There was a News Paper stand across from the bank my mom and I would go to.My always bought her news paper there. For some reason this news stand had a soda fountain where you could buy chocolate egg creams and drink them there in the store. I have no clue why they had it, but I remember my mom buying them for me and OH how I loved those chocolate egg creams.

Then there was the drug store that we would go to whenever we needed medicine,band-aids,shampoo,nail polish……… . There was also a toy story that I loved going to. I remember when I was sick usually with the Flu and my mom had to take me to the doctors she would tell me “if your good I’ll take you to the toy store when we’re done and you can get a toy”. That was always a good incentive for me to be good at the doctors office 🙂 .

There was also a block party that I remember very well. All the neighbors participated in this. We invited my dad’s parents and all his aunts and uncles. We had a BBQ that day and there were rides for kids to go on. That was a day filled with lots and lots of fun!

Well I don’t know if the news paper stand and all the other stores are still there anymore. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been to that neighborhood. It’s actually been over 19 years really since I’ve been there. There is a very small part of me that misses it, but I am so thankful for the memories that I have from that neighborhood and my child hood.
