Getting a hug from your teenage son!

Getting a hug from your teenage son is never an easy thing to do. I know this from experience. Most of the time when I ask my son for a hug he just looks at me and says “Yeah right!”. I then proceed to stand there with my arms wide open waiting for that hug I know I’m not going to get.

Then there are those rare days when I am cleaning in the kitchen or doing something and my son randomly comes up to me and gives me a hug. I always ask him the same thing “what was that for?”. He tells me “you know why”. On those very rare occasions when I do get a hug from my teenage son I accept them with a thankful heart. I kinda figure I’ll take what I can when I can.

Recently my son surprised me. After my mom passed away, my husband and I were getting ready to help my dad out for that weekend which meant our kids needed to stay with my husbands mom. As I was crying I asked my son for a hug. With out any hesitation he stood up from playing the xbox and gave me a hug. Granted he kept on playing his game, but hey as I said I’ll take what I can when I can. After a few minutes I said to him “you can let go now”. He was like Oh. That did manage to give me a bit of a chuckle in that brief moment.

I love my teenage son so much and I am thankful for every hug he is willing to give me no matter how long or how short of a hug it may be.
