Ah being Italian!
Yes, I am Italian! I wasn’t born in Italy but I come from a strong Italian family. Growing up my family lived in Brooklyn. My dad’s side of my family was/is a strong Italian family. My dad’s mom’s family came from Sicily and his dad’s family came from Naples.
I find that Italians act in a certain way that make us very distinct from other people. We yell at each other a lot, but not in a bad way. We speak with our hands a lot and we love being with family. We have our gestures that we love to use ( hahaha ). If your Italian you know what I mean! Italians make some of the best food there is to eat. I must say we can have quite the attitudes at times good and bad.
I was telling my husband the other day that I find it amazing. It doesn’t seem to matter where I live my Italian heritage seems to come out of me. His reply was a simple “Yes it does”. I do tend to speak with my hands a lot. I do use certain gestures that I grew up with. If you get me annoyed enough I can say “forget about it” with a Brooklyn accent and an Italian attitude. My husband always get a kick out of that.
You know what? I’m thankful I am part or should I say mostly Italian. I am proud to be an Italian. It’s a part of what makes me who I am and I like who I am. I know my husband loves me for who I am. Over all I’d say being Italian is pretty cool!
